(Hello Again Europe! Day 9 – Wandering Antwerp by My Own)

After leaving the slightly hectic Brussels with all the lock down Metro Stations, I was back with the more laid back but still buzzling Antwerp.
Roads were still being repaired, markets were still buzzling, but there is this unexplainable quietness that keeps the whole town tranquil with birds flying about probably enjoying the breeze and maybe catching some insect in the air.
Half of Antwerp, especially near the main train station, especially where the Cathedral and the famous Reuben House museum is will still be filled with tourists and locals; but near the pier it is peaceful and calm. Perhaps there were no more activities during the month of November.

I was literally enjoying taking pictures and listening to the faint honk of the ships for a good hour before I have decided to walk around the street which according to Telegraph UK, where the popular indoor trading markets once stood; and now it is in a much quieter setting.
COL Founder
You can see most of the ships that are resting (maybe) for the winter, or for repairs, docked by the river.
COL Founder
I wondered… does this boat that runs (maybe) on coal still work?
COL Founder
Besides that, from my previous post I did share how the Antwerp train station’s multi-tier looked like when I first arrived and was mesmerised with its structure; but its departure and arrival lobby plus the outside of its building still well maintained with its 19th century design; maybe with a little tweak a little here and there.

This is how it looks like inside.

On my way back to my AirBnB, I tried to go back to the famous Fort Het Steen, it was once again closed. So I just took a selfie instead.

The Food...

Antwerp is still very much like Brussels, with stalls and shops selling fries situated in many places.
COL Founder
But if you are not into deep fried and is opting for a healthier versions, (smaller) supermarkets offer relatively nice priced yogurt where you can enjoy.
COL Founder
Me, feeling lazy with yogurt meal while spending quiet time reading, and occasionally doing some work remotely for the client.
COL Founder
If you’d prefer to get some readymade cooked food, especially during the evenings when the price drops so that they can clear off the food and not waste it, Carrefour Market that sits about 38 mins walk away from the Central Train Station.
Note: It feels like a 30 min walk is far away, but if you are staying close by the port with AirBnB it is relatively close and you won’t really feel it because the weather is cooling and there are just tons to see.
COL Founder
Overall, end-Autumn-coming-Winter’s Antwerp is pretty relaxing. Despite it is near the end of the year, you still see blooms that probably do not hibernate still display its beauty.
COL Founder
I am actually wondering are these for display or are they edible… haha.

I will reserve the other 2 main attractions in Antwerp for the next post when my guardian angel (then, now fiancé) drops by for a visit and once again, be my guide for the day.
